Fighting Crime and Drug Abuse -- Volunteers Strike Back

Volunteers worldwide participated in a global strike against drugs last weekend August 23-24 by getting hundreds of thousands of Truth About Drugs educational booklets into the hands of residents in San Diego, Paris, London, Sydney, Johannesburg and 100 other cities around the world.

http://origin.ih.constantcontact.com...02217155012The massive international drug education blitz is part of the international "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" drug prevention campaign including the Spring Valley Community Center "How We Live" health fair attended by more than 1000 people.

"The most powerful weapon in the war on drugs is education," said Dave Meyer a local representative for the campaign. "Today, the problems of drugs hit us wherever we turn, but the Truth About Drugs materials cut through the hype and lies people hear about drugs in the streets."

The Truth About Drugs is a series of pocket-sized, research-based booklets refined through two decades of experience by members of Scientology churches and other volunteer organizations participating in the "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" campaign activities. The booklets are available in 22 languages.

"The beauty of The Truth About Drugs is that it provides a lot information in a concise way," said Mr. Meyer. "It is factual and hard-hitting and tells why people take drugs, how drugs work and the short- and long-term effects of the most commonly abused drugs. This is information people need. We are happy to see the Padres, the County of San Diego and many other local groups stand-up for a healthy San Diego!"

http://origin.ih.constantcontact.com...=1102217155012"It' s great to get out and make a difference in your community," said Peter Kendall, a local Volunteer "It's also very encouraging to know that so many people are working together to spread the truth about drugs in their area. By getting this information out there, we can save many lives."

The long-running "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" campaign has been carried out in 60 counties over the past 20 years, including more than 21 million Truth About Drugs booklets, 280,000 billboards and posters, 98,000 public events and 3.4 million individuals pledging to be drug-free.

To find out more about "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" activities in San Diego, contact David Meyer at 619-239-2091.

We missed the Health Fair in Spring Valley. Now we have to acquire copies of the anti-drug booklets the cult was handing out.

"Free health and wellness festival in Spring Valley
On Saturday, August 23 the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation and East Region Health and Human Services Agency hosted the fourth annual “It’s How We Live” Health and Wellness Festival at Spring Valley Park and Community Center. Local nutrition experts demonstrated healthy cooking recipes and offered nutritious snack taste tests. Recreation specialists offered easy daily exercise tips and information on where to find free recreation resources throughout the county. Participants also had opportunities for free health screenings, body fat analyses, and injury prevention tips. There were healthy prizes and giveaways such as pedometers, cookbooks, and wholesome food samples. In addition, adults and children enjoyed a wide range of activities such as a rock climbing wall, nutrition olympics, scavenger hunt, crafts, and inflatable jumps."
